The role of Digital Public Infrastructure in strengthening Trust between Government and Citizens

Digital Public Infrastructure (DPI) is a critical foundation for government’s efforts to rebuild trust with citizens. DPI allows for transparency and accountability of public institutions giving everyday citizens the opportunity to not only hold government to account, but also encourage their participation and contribution.

The implementation of DPI  also enables effective communication between government and citizens ensuring that information is easily and accurately disseminated, while also providing an avenue for feedback. This 2 way engagement ensures that decisions that affect all are taken based on a collective conversation that sees citizens having a voice at the table.

In Africa, DPI initiatives will also ensure that previously marginalised communities can have access to government services, financial and welfare programmes thereby also reducing the digital divide and promoting inclusive economic growth.
