Nara Monkam is an Associate Professor of Public Economics and the Head of the Public Policy Hub (PPH) at the University of Pretoria, South Africa. She also serves as the Chair in Municipal Finance. Prior to joining the University, she was the Director of Research at the African Tax Administration Forum (ATAF) and a member of the Davis Tax Committee, which reassessed the South African tax system. Her areas of expertise include public economics, domestic resource mobilization, tax policy and administration, intergovernmental fiscal relations, and property taxation reforms. She earned her PhD in Economics from the Andrew Young School of Policy Studies at Georgia State University, USA, and holds both Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Economics from the University of Namur in Belgium.
