Connected Resilience: Gendered Experiences of Meaningful Connectivity through a Global Pandemic
Leveraging on lessons gathered during the COVID-19 pandemic, GDIP’s 2024 study digs deeper into the repercussions of the digital exclusion of women to better understand their choices and experiences. Based on quantitative research in Bangladesh, Cambodia, Ghana, Mozambique, South Africa, and Uganda, as well as qualitative and ethnographic research in India, Nigeria, Mozambique and the Philippines, the study uncovers the socio-economic, educational, and developmental losses caused by the lack of digital connectivity, while also learning about women’s strategies to overcome exclusion and inequality.
GDIP will share lessons learned from the Connected Resilience research and evidence of policy solutions that meet the needs of women, as relevant to equity and inclusion in digital governance.
A 20 minute presentation will be followed by a moderated high level Panel discussion with 4-5 key voices from the global majority, including women from the digital development sector, policymakers and civil society. The panel will reflect on the insights presented, and provide an opportunity for policy dialogue on successful interventions, key recommendations and gender-responsive policy actions required for digital governance to serve all in society.
A moderated dialogue and sharing of experiences among multi-stakeholder participants will then be encouraged in a Roundtable format, concluding with a summary of concrete next steps and commitments.
